“Organic Patio Gardening”
Continuing with our new project of a one-time special interest class on Saturday, February 15th we had Mr. Ron, along with his helpers: Ms. Nancy, Mr. Bob, and Mr. Donald, help us host a special organic gardening class. This class was special in a sense because Mr. Ron not only taught about gardening but how gardening is a great parable to the Word of God. Mathew 13: The Parable of the Sower. This class of all ages enjoyed great tips on gardening and learned more about the Word of God. Families were able to take home a plant that they helped re-pot and a beautiful orange tote bag donated by Home-Depot along who also donated the plants and other materials used for the class.
Senior Citizen Share Valentine’s Celebration
At Aldine Family Hope Center we have many programs and services for the whole family from an after-school program to GED and ESL classes to a Senior Club. So, this February 14th(Valentine’s Day) we wanted to celebrate our beloved Senior Citizens. Our case manager, Sheri Russell, organized an informative workshop with various vendors and organizations geared specify to inform Senior Citizens on their services including Vecino’s Health Center, Deerbrook Pharmacy, and Harris Co. Housing Resource Center. Our Senior Citizens also received “goody” bags which included crafts made by our after-school program children and our teens from our Teen Enrichment programs. It was such a fun and loving gathering!

“Your Personal Touch Gift Wrap” Class
We understand the great need for family activities in the Aldine community area. At Aldine FHC we have started Special Interest Classes—which are a one-time class on various activities hosted by volunteers. On Tuesday, February 11th we had a special class hosted by Monique Stewart on the art of gift-wrapping. Those that participated during this special interest class were able to learn some techniques on how to give the most presentable present! It was filled with color, ribbon, paper, and camaraderie. Check our Upcoming Events for more information on other events hosted at Aldine Family Hope Center.
“Black History Month: Jazz & Poetry Concert”
As a tradition here at Aldine Family Hope Center, we had legendary Bubbha Thomas Jazz Band Musicians to come and present a program full of music and fun. This concert is in honor of Black History Month. The program included Andrenetta Marshall with a gorgeous praise dance demonstration. Thank you to Westfield H.S. Step Team for performing beautifully and the program can’t be complete without Ms. Sylvia Bolling’s stunning signature sign language song performance—“Hero” by Mariah Carey. This event was also a great cashiering training for our teens from the program Empower2Employ. It was a very entertaining and interactive presentation that the entire family enjoyed.
Volunteer Luncheon Appreciation January 2014
At Aldine FHC we want to empower with a positive change in the lives of the youth and families; through partnerships with businesses, agencies, schools, churches, and talented volunteers as the many that contribute their time and gifts to the community! That is why we can never thank our volunteers enough. On Friday, January 31—Aldine FHC planned a luncheon to celebrate 23 volunteers that had earned more than 50 hrs. in a year. In total the volunteers had shared with the center over 4,100 hours of time and dedication! Thank you to all for making this possible.
Aldine Celebrates Community Christmas
On December 17th & 18th, Aldine Family Hope Center hosted a Christmas celebration benefiting over 300 children this season! What makes this such a unique event is that each family contributes directly in the process of receiving gifts for their children. Families volunteer and attend a Christmas Decorating Party, where they help transform the center with Christmas decorations to create a festive environment! Families are able to fellowship with other families in the community. As a center, we get a better opportunity to know the families that we serves and the families get to know more about the programs and services we offer all year long. This amazing project would not be possible without the help of the many wonderful people who donated and volunteered. We are so grateful for your support!
